Next Sunday 17th of November there's a new get-together from Simply Slow. Wool is the theme, and I will contribute. Wool is such a great material, an endless source of inspiration for me! Pottenbakken was een van de eerste ambachten in de geschiedenis ontwikkeld door boeren, evenals het gebruik van schapenwol.Beide hebben een prachtige geschiedenis. De eerste tekenen van pottenbakken dateren van 7000 BC, als opslagvoor graan en andere producten. De eerste wollen kleding die gevonden is dateert van 1000 BC. De archetypische vormen van potten en vazen inspireerden mij voor de handgebreide objecten in deze collectie. Zowel wol als klei zijn beschermend, sterk, bruikbaar en mooi. Hoe verschillend de ambachten ook; het object ontstaat voor je ogen door het werken, een pot of vaas vanuit een homp klei, een gebreid object vanuit een bol wol. Wol is een natuurlijk, herwinbaar materiaal. Voor de toepassing ervan is van oorsprong alleen menselijke energie nodig. Om de schapen te scheren, de wol te spinnen, te weven of te breien. Voor deze collectie gebruik ik alleen onbewerkte of gerecyclede wol. De objecten zijn uniek, voelen vanzelfsprekend en warm aan. De schoonheid schuilt in de eenvoud. Het proces is 'slow textile'; dat wil zeggen het proces van maken is onderdeel van de identiteit van de objecten. Daardoor krijgt een object meer waarde en levensduur, wat weer een onderdeel is van duurzaam design. Maten tussen 10 cm en 40 cm, Prijzen varieren van 7 tot 75 euro. As pottery was one of the first crafts early farmers developed, using the wool of their sheep was another. Both have a wonderful history. The first pottery was made around 7000 BC, as a means of storage for their grain and other produce. The first woollen garments date from 1000 bc. The archetypical shapes of pots and vases was my inspiration for the handknitted objects in this collection. Wool as well as pottery is protective, strong, useful and beautiful. However different knitting and pottery are; It’s beautiful to see a product grow through the crafts: a pot or vase from just a chunk of clay, a knitted object from a bowl of wool. Wool is a natural, renewable material source. In fact no other energy is needed to make it applicable for its use than human energy. To shear, to spin, to weave or knit. For this collection I only use organic wool or recycled wool. The objects are familiar to us, they give a touch of warmth and beauty and each one is unique. This is ‘slow textile’; the process of making the object gives identity. This adds value and longevity and therefore creates sustainable design. Sizes vary from very small -10 cm heigth- to rather big -40 cm heigth-, and prices are approximately between 7 and 75 euro. Special sizes and wool on demand.
